Lawn Dethatching
4-Seasons Outdoors Lawn & Landscape offers a
variety of services to repair or rejuvenate your lawn. In addition to our
other services, we also offer dethatching. We recommend dethatching once per
season to all established lawns.
- Detatching is simply the removal of the
excessive layer of debris that accumulates above the soil
and below the blades of grass.
- The goal of dethatching is not to clear the grass of
all the thatch but to remove the excessive build-up of
thatch
-
Thatch is primarily composed of grass
clippings that looks like look like a tightly knit layer
of brown debris
-
A healthy lawn will have 1/2 inch build up of thatch
to conserve moisture anything beyond 3/4 inch is a sign
of excess
- Spring is the best time for dethatching in
Michigan.
- An application of fertilizer, along with heavy
watering after the dethatching will greatly stimulate the
root growth.
