Lawn Aeration
4-Seasons Outdoors Lawn & Landscape offers a
variety of services to repair or rejuvenate your lawn. In addition to our
other services, we also offer core aeration and overseeding. We recommend
aeration and overseeding once per season to all established lawns.
- Aeration is simply the removal of hundreds of small soil
plugs from a lawn, to help break up soil compaction and improve root
growth.
- Core aeration will reduce soil compaction and enhance thatch
breakdown, thus improving soil water uptake and decreasing water
runoff and puddling.
-
Core aeration allows air, water, and fertilizer to better reach
the root zone. This helps stimulate root growth to create healthier,
stronger turf grass.
- Spring or Fall is the best time for aeration in Michigan.
- An application of fertilizer, along with heavy watering
after the aeration will greatly stimulate the root growth.
- Fall is the best time for overseeding because of the better
establishment conditions with the cool, moist weather.
- Good seed to soil contact is important. Seed that is watered
into the holes created by the aeration will have a much higher
germination rate than seed that is spread over a lawn which has not
been aerated.
- Overseeding with a blended bluegrass in the fall will make the
lawn more disease resistant, more drought resistant, and more insect
tolerant.
